Logo Symbolism
The logo of the XXVI RiNEm originates from the desire to celebrate an important anniversary for this conference and for the Italian scientific community that recognizes itself in SIEm, the Italian Society of Electromagnetism. In fact, 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the first national meeting on applied electromagnetism, which was held in L’Aquila from 24 to 25 June 1976 and was coordinated by Prof. Fernando Bardati. This is the meaning of the number 50 that stands out in the image of logo, while inside the 0 it is symbolized the closeness between the electromagnetic community represented by the curves of the Smith Chart and the City of L’Aquila represented by the stylised image of the rose window of the Basilica of Santa Maria di Collemaggio, the emblem of the city. White and red are the historic civic colours of the city of L’Aquila and characterise the facades of various monuments and historic buildings.
In 1976 “the beautiful city of L’Aquila” was chosen because “it has two gates, Porta Roma and Porta Napoli: the promoting committee Bernardi-D’Auria-Franceschetti chose it as the venue for the meeting, perhaps as a meeting place between two of the major Italian schools of electromagnetism of the time” (Memoria_RiNEm). The logo expresses the hope that RiNEm’s return to L’Aquila will spark renewed commitment and interest in Italian electromagnetic culture and SIEm.
